What's Happening Next?Posted 11/19/2024
After reviewing public feedback from the recent open house event and the public survey, the County will work with the consultant to develop a methodology to identify what kinds of open space are most critical for protection. Protection could look like land conservation, the development of parks and open space, the use of land use planning tools to protect high value areas and working with partners to voluntarily protect open space. The County and its partners will begin to brainstorm implementation strategies in early Spring 2025.
Future Public Engagement The public will weigh in on implementation strategies in February 2025 as part of an online public open house and a new online survey. The public will hear about how the County and partners might go about protecting additional open space and have the public weigh in on what implementation strategies and actions they support most. A Successful Open House!Posted 11/19/2024
The County hosted a public open house for early input on November 14th, where input from over 50 Greenville County residents was collected. That input and the online survey will inform the project team what types of open space are most valued by the public and where the public prioritizes permanently protected open space (farmlands, parks, natural areas, and historic landscapes). A huge 'thank you' to everyone who attended!

Public Open House for Greenville County Open Space Plan on November 14th, 2024Posted 10/18/2024

Greenville County residents are invited to a public open house event to share their vision, goals, and priorities for open space in Greenville County. Greenville County’s 2020 Comprehensive Plan indicated strong interest from local citizens in preserving more open space in the county. In response to that interest, the County is creating a new Open Space Plan that will establish a long-term vision for preserving natural habitats, working lands, and parks, as well as an action plan for implementation over the next 10 years.
Open space is land that is permanently set aside for private or public use and will not be developed. These lands function as important infrastructure that protects our water quality and wildlife, protects us from flood prone areas, and ensures food security through working lands and hunting and fishing. Open space also often provides recreation lands for play and contributes to the health and quality of life of the citizens of Greenville County. At the public open house event, attendees will be able to read information about the planning process, share their own preferences related to future open space preservation in the county, identify what places are special to them in the county, and speak directly with planning team members. Residents can also participate by taking an online survey which can be accessed here: https://www.menti.com/albp51chnyih EVENT DETAILS What is the event?
